小蜗牛捧着一枚贝壳，听见里面轻轻的声音。“大海真的这样响吗？”

奶奶笑了：“那是贝壳让周围的声音变得不一样。真正的大海，要亲耳听。”

Grandma smiled. “The shell changes the sounds around us. To hear the real sea, you'll need to go there.”

小蜗牛展开地图。从家到海边，路线长得绕过了半张桌子。

Little Snail unfolded a map. The route to the sea stretched across half the table.

“这么远，我什么时候才能到呀？”他把小包又放了下来。

“It's so far. How will I ever get there?” He put his little bag down again.

奶奶指着窗外：“今天，先走到村口那棵大树，好不好？”

Grandma pointed outside. “Today, how about just reaching the big tree at the edge of the village?”

清晨，小蜗牛背好包，慢慢滑过门前的一块石头。旅程开始了。

In the morning, Little Snail put on his bag and crossed the stone outside. His journey had begun.

到了大树下，他回头看。家已经小了一点点，原来自己真的走出来了！

At the tree, he looked back. Home was a little smaller. He really had started!

下一段是草地。瓢虫陪他走了一会儿，指出一条阴凉的小径。

Next came the meadow. Ladybird joined him for a while and showed him a shady path.

草叶上的露珠亮晶晶的。走得慢，也能看见许多美丽的小东西。

Dewdrops sparkled on the grass. Moving slowly let him notice many lovely little things.

中午下起雨，他躲进干燥的树洞。“今天走不远了。”他有些着急。

Rain began at noon. He sheltered in a dry hollow log. “I won't get far today,” he worried.

他吃了点东西，等雨停。“休息不是回到起点。”他轻轻告诉自己。

He ate a little and waited. “Resting doesn't send me back to the start,” he reminded himself.

雨后，小路分成两条。他选了花多的一边，却走到一片陌生的菜地。

After the rain, the path forked. He chose the flower-lined branch and reached an unfamiliar vegetable patch.

“走错了。”小蜗牛难过地缩起触角，差一点想掉头回家。

“I took the wrong way.” His feelers drooped. For a moment, he wanted to go home.

乌龟伯伯听了他的方向，带他看地图：“回到岔路，再沿小溪走。”

Turtle listened and checked the map with him. “Back to the fork, then follow the stream.”

这次，他先认好路边的大石头，再出发。多走的路，变成了一次经验。

This time, he noted a large stone by the path before setting off. His detour had taught him something.

小溪挡在前面。小蜗牛没有下水，沿岸找到一座结实的小桥。

A stream crossed his way. Little Snail stayed out of the water and found a sturdy little bridge.

过了桥，是一段长坡。他走一小段，歇一会儿，夕阳给壳镀上金边。

Beyond the bridge was a long slope. He moved a little, rested a little, and his shell glowed in the sunset.

夜里，他有点想家，便画下今天见到的桥，打算回去讲给奶奶听。

That night, he missed home. He drew the bridge so he could tell Grandma about it later.

又过了几天，风里多了一点咸咸的味道。天上飞过一只白海鸥。

A few days later, the breeze smelled a little salty. A white gull passed overhead.

海鸥说：“翻过前面那座沙丘，就能看见海。”小蜗牛又向前挪了一步。

“The sea is beyond that dune,” said Gull. Little Snail moved one more step forward.

清晨，他越过沙丘。蓝色的大海一下铺到眼前，浪声比贝壳里的宽广得多。

At dawn, he crested the dune. Blue sea filled his view, its waves far fuller than the sound inside the shell.

小蜗牛把贝壳贴在身边，笑了。原来这么远的大海，也能从家门口的第一步走到。

Little Snail smiled beside his seashell. Even this faraway sea had begun with one small step outside his door.

把大目标分成小步骤；可以休息、问路，也可以调整计划。
