Mom pointed ahead. “We are going to the city library. Let’s watch three signal changes along the way and solve the mystery.” An'an began her color-detective mission.

第一盏红灯亮起，汽车、自行车和公交车都停在停止线后。安安发现，大家像排队等候的小火车。

At the first crossing, the red light came on. Cars, bicycles, and a bus stopped behind the line. An'an thought they looked like little trains waiting in a row.

安安数了数：一辆公交车、两辆小汽车，还有一位骑车人。红灯让不同方向的人先等一等，路口就不会挤成一团。

An'an counted one bus, two cars, and one cyclist. A red light lets one direction wait while another takes a turn, so the crossing does not become a tangled crowd.

另一侧的行人信号变成绿色小人，安安等妈妈看清后才走。原来，车辆和行人也有各自的通行时间。

The pedestrian signal on the other side changed to a green walking figure. An'an waited for Mom to check, then stepped forward. Vehicles and people each get their own time to move.

绿灯亮了，妈妈牵着安安走斑马线；她们先看左边、右边，再留意转弯车辆，不在路口奔跑。

When the light turned green, Mom held An'an's hand across the zebra crossing. They looked left and right and watched for turning vehicles instead of running.

第二个路口，黄灯闪起。一辆还没进入路口的车在安全处减速停下。黄灯提醒大家准备停止，不是催人加速。

At the second intersection, the yellow light began to flash. A car that had not entered the crossing slowed and stopped where it was safe. Yellow means prepare to stop, never hurry up.

安安抬头看信号灯箱。妈妈说，信号控制器按设定的时序切换；有些路口还会用传感器观察车流，调整等待时间。

An'an looked up at the signal cabinet. Mom explained that a controller switches the lights in a planned order. Some intersections use sensors to notice traffic and adjust waiting time.

第三个路口出现绿色左转箭头，直行车辆仍在等待。安安猜对了：箭头只给指向的车流一个专用通行时段。

At the third crossing, a green left-turn arrow appeared while straight-ahead cars still waited. An'an guessed correctly: an arrow gives only the pointed direction its own time to move.

她们玩起“颜色侦探”：找出红、黄、绿三种灯，猜下一次谁先走。安安发现，灯变色不是心情变化，而是在轮流发口令。

They played “color detective”: find red, yellow, and green, then guess who will move next. An'an discovered that the lights do not change moods—they give turns in an orderly way.

到图书馆门口，安安总结：“红灯停，黄灯准备，绿灯在确认安全后走；每个方向轮流，城市才顺畅。”

At the library, An'an summed it up: “Red means stop, yellow means prepare, and green means go after checking that it is safe. Taking turns keeps the city moving.”

安安把观察画进小本子，又问：“那公交车沿着路线，怎么知道下一站呢？”妈妈笑了：“下次坐一程就知道啦！”

An'an drew the observations in her little notebook, then asked, “How does a bus know which stop comes next?” Mom smiled. “Let’s ride one and find out!”

红绿灯用不同颜色安排轮流通行；看到信号后还要停稳、观察，再安全通过。

Traffic lights use different colors to take turns. We still stop, look, and cross safely when the signal allows it.
