安安和妈妈又来参观新公园。未来的小操场一边鼓起来，一边凹下去。“在这里踢球，球会不会自己溜走呀？”安安问。

隆隆隆，推土机来了！它前面没有装土的大斗，而是一块宽宽的推土板。安安说：“它带了一把横着走的大尺子！”

Rumble! A bulldozer arrived. Instead of a scoop, it had a broad blade in front. “It brought a giant sideways ruler!” An'an said.

林工程师先看测量结果，再指给司机看：哪里高，哪里需要填。土地不是随便推一推，还要照着设计安排好排水方向。

Lin checked the survey and showed the driver the high spots and places to fill. The ground needed more than random pushing: its slope also had to guide water as designed.

司机把推土板降下来，朝着土堆慢慢走。松土在板前聚成一道小波浪。沙沙，沙沙，土浪向低处移动了。

The driver lowered the blade and moved slowly toward loose soil. Earth gathered in a little wave before it. Shush, shush—the wave moved toward the hollow.

两条履带一节节向前，稳稳撑住车身。妈妈提醒：“履带能分散重量，可不是有了履带，什么烂泥地都能闯。”

The tracks moved link by link and supported the machine. “Tracks spread its weight,” Mom said, “but that does not mean it can cross every patch of mud.”

推到合适的位置，司机稍稍抬起推土板。土一点点留下来，铺成薄薄一层。安安比画着：“像给土地铺被子，不要一团一团的。”

At the right spot, the driver raised the blade slightly. Soil spread out in a thin layer. “Like laying a blanket on the ground, without lumpy folds,” An'an said.

第一趟结束，还有小鼓包。推土机退回去，换个合适的方向再推。安安数：“一趟，两趟……原来平整要慢慢做。”

Small bumps remained after the first pass. The bulldozer returned and pushed from a suitable direction. An'an counted. “One pass, two passes…making it even takes time.”

忽然，前方露出一段树根。司机停住了。那是要保留的大树，根旁边不能想推就推；林工程师请大家重新确认保护范围。

A tree root appeared ahead, and the driver stopped. The tree was to be kept, so its roots could not simply be bulldozed. Lin had the team recheck the protection zone.

围栏围好，路线改一改。推土机绕开大树，工作人员用合适的方法处理旁边的地面。安安松口气：“以后还能在树荫里休息呢！”

With the tree protected, the route changed. The bulldozer went around, and workers used suitable methods near the roots. “We can still rest in its shade someday!” An'an said.

中午下了小雨，地面变软。机器先停下来，等工作人员判断什么时候适合继续。安安说：“今天的土被子，也得等一等。”

A little rain softened the ground at noon. Work paused until the team judged it suitable to continue. “The earth's blanket needs a little waiting time,” An'an said.

天气转晴，工作人员又量一量。该补的补，该修的修。看上去很平的地方，也可能还藏着一点点高低差。

When the weather cleared, workers measured again. They filled and trimmed where needed. Even ground that looked flat might still have small differences in height.

推平还不等于压结实。林工程师说：“后面要请压实设备来，把松散的土层按要求压好。”安安挥挥手：“下一位伙伴准备！”

Leveling did not mean compacting was finished. “Compaction equipment will make the loose layers firm as required,” Lin explained. “Next teammate, get ready!” An'an waved.

几天后，小操场的形状清楚了，旁边留下温和的排水坡。安安发现，平整不是每一处都绝对水平，而是符合这里的需要。

Days later, the play field had taken shape, with a gentle drainage slope beside it. An'an learned that well-graded ground is shaped for its purpose, not perfectly level everywhere.

回家后，安安用厚纸板推盘里的沙。推太多，沙子从两边逃跑；少推一点，再走一趟，就整齐多了。妈妈笑着给她递来小刷子。

At home, An'an pushed sand in a tray with cardboard. Too much escaped around the sides. Smaller pushes made it neater. Mom smiled and passed her a little brush.

找找看：推土板在哪里？履带在哪里？如果前面是要保留的大树，应该继续冲，还是停下来请工作人员判断？安安已经有答案了。

Find the blade and the tracks. If a tree must be protected, should the machine rush on, or stop for the team to assess? An'an knew the answer.

公园开放那天，安安在操场上轻轻踢出一个球。球滚向妈妈。大树摇着叶子，仿佛也在说：“谢谢你们给土地铺好了被子。”

On opening day, An'an gently kicked a ball across the play field to Mom. The tree rustled as if to say, “Thank you for smoothing the earth's blanket.”

看清高低、分次调整，比一股脑儿往前冲更有效。
